We know what you are thinking.
Where did you come up with such a:
Choose: a) Brilliant, b) Useful, c) Stupid idea? Correct answer is either a) or b) ofcourse! ☺
Well, Mizpee is the result of a number of things. The two founders, Dhana & I have been in the mobile industry for a combined 17 years (whoa!). So essentially, we live and breathe mobile every day of our lives.
But the real inspiration, if you can call it that, came from a visit to a public bathroom in a public building. (The Department of Homeland Security has asked that we do not reveal the name of the building or the city it is located.) The smell of the facilities was so bad that after only two minutes I had a splitting headache. I thought (or silently` screamed) “if I only knew where there was a clean toilet in this area that I could just walk in and use!” Given our backgrounds the rest followed easily.
You’re probably thinking: Dude, why not just ask someone on the street where a bathroom is?
Valid question.
Well, we ask you:
Will that person really know a close bathroom? (proximity is somewhat of a pressing issue where bathrooms are concerned) Will that person know if it is clean?
Will that person know if the building is open at that hour?
Will that person know if it has the facilities you need, e.g. diaper changing station?
We provide you all of this information and more.
Do try Mizpee for yourself and let us know what you think!

This is a very useful site. Eventually it will be interesting to see if retailers get it, that maintaining clean restrooms is great for business.
Still as a taxpayer, it troubles me that local governments aren’t doing a better job providing services everyone needs. Restrooms are like streetlights and sidewalks….part of the public domain.

This is a great idea, but there needs to be more cities included, like cities in the greater Los Angeles area and Orange County, i.e. Burbank, Pasadena, Hollywood, Huntington Beach, etc.
P.S. What about a section that includes the coolest/nicest bathrooms!….like the bathroom at the Aruba Cafe in Newport Beach!!!! It’s great! It has a TV and a black light!
and the bathroom at Insomnia (coffee shop) in West Hollywood is dirty but it has a lot of entertaining reading on the walls….

I just heard about the site on CBC, Canada’s national radio, and thought that it was absolutely brilliant. Then I visited the web site and saw that you only have certain US cities covered. *Please* tell us what it will take to have cities in Canada added.

Trivia #12 : the name of the king of France is not “Louise” but “Louis” (= Lewis)
(“Louise” is the female name)

From a user interface and design perspective, I would just like to say GREAT JOB, for using a female cartoon character in the site design. It induces a feeling of discreetness on a topic that could easily go crass. Love the site, it reminds me of the Seinfeld episode where George Costanza names the best restrooms from a nearby location!

What about collecting toilet graffiti which can then be accessed as “reading material” when visiting a toilet facility devoid of this modern art-form!
My own personal favourite was at London Euston Railway Station many years ago.
It said “Ulster will always say no!” to which somebody had added “The Juice Man from Del Monte said yes and he was an Orangeman!”
Great work, keep developing!

In NJ & NY all Starbucks & Dunkin Donuts have restrooms that can be used without making a purchase. Also the larger Wawa’s & Quickchecks have restrooms that can be used. Most are cleaned regularlly.

This is pretty much the most amazing site ever. My friends and I have been talking about making a site just like this for a long time, but didn’t realize one already existed! Please add Santa Cruz, CA to the list of cities!!

Great idea! I say that because I had the same idea about 3 years ago, but was too lazy to do anything about it. (I am not claiming prior art, rather commending you on actually implementing a very valuable service…)
I’ll be checking in regularly to see how this sight grows. The one thing I am convinced of is “people are passionate about the places they pee”.

I have (gratefully) used the McDonalds on the Champs Elysees, Paris, right hand side walking toward the Arc de Triomphe. Don’t know the hours (it was the middle of the day), but it was clean and accessable.

I’d love for someone to explain why the diaper changing station is always put into the handicapped stall, and then all the little mommies with their six or seven little toddlers take them all to pee in there at the same time, and those of us that the handicapped stall was built for are left waiting and widdling in our pants.
The handicapped stall is NOT FOR YOU, mommies!

Wow this is fantastic. About 2 years ago I was making a round trip from Lancaster, Ca to Placentia Ca. its about a 2 1/2 hour drive. Due to a problem with diabetes I would have to stop maybe 2 or 3 times each way. I became very familiar with potty stops on my route, If I found a clean one I made sure I always stopped, and for the benefit of having a nice restroom I always made a purchase of some sort. I have refered to the hollywood area, not sure if north hollywood or not, its where the subway stop is.. as the land of no potties… I could not find a clean acessible one anywhere there.. I think its because they have to much homeless using the bathrooms so most business don’t have public bathrooms. Anyways I will do my best to update my area on good potties.. I know many of them because God knows I pee a lot. just need to find addresses. For now here is three cheers to all you fellow pottiers

Hi, I just heard and found out about this site today. Great idea and a huge help to the nation.
You should look into PeePublic.com (new site), it is a site with the premise of learning the proper actions to take when using the bathroom and helping to keep them clean. Its community based and we hope to help educate people about what to do and not to do in the restroom, as well as create humor. These two sites could work great together.
Again, Great Idea.

It’s a survival part of my job running on down the road to know where clean accessible bathrooms are. Preferably multi stall… given my job. So how do we add to the list for areas outside the one city you list in my state?
